ALEXANDRA WASTEBUSTERS
BY LEON HURRING
BOOM! “The big machines at the tip make lots of noise” I said. The sounds of the machines moving, squeaking like running a fork across my plate at dinner time.
We went into a big building, there were people sorting the rubbish into the right bins, there was a big machine called the crusher, but it had broken. The crusher is a thing made out of metal that moulds cardboard into big cardboard bales.
Over the fence, next door, I could see a big machine with a big metal claw that was picking up metal and moving it. There were bits of old cars, and broken down fridges and freezers.
I could smell the stinky bokashi. It was in a bucket full with yucky food scraps producing a smelly liquid to put on our gardens.
I could feel shattered glass crunching on my shoes. These were from beer bottles that had fallen from recycling bins and been crushed by the trucks.
I thought that going to the wastebusters was very interesting and I learnt lots of new things. If the number inside the triangle on the plastics we recycle is larger than 7, then it can’t be recycled.
